Marian van der Meulen
Owner & manager of Sew Creative East London training centre.
Course facilitator – Beginner & Intermediate Courses / Craft Courses / Home Decor Courses
Marian joined Sew Creative in September 2020 and offer beginner & intermediate courses at various locations around the Eastern Cape, focussing on East London. Marian is very creative and loves sharing her passion for sewing. With a talent for decorating, she offers craft sewing lessons to beginners & seasoned sewists.
Here’s what she had to say about her experience with sewing:
My fascination with sewing started in my teens when I inherited my mothers’ 1960’s Elna super-matic machine. Being able to create something from bits of fabric lying around and craft it into a useable item was like magic and gave me enormous pride.
I am a farmer’s wife and mother that takes care of the array of animals on the farm. Being situated remotely on the farm has made me very industrious with abilities to think ‘out of the box’ and apply practical solutions to problems as the solutions were not always available in the store down the road.
The versatility of fabric has inspired me to transform it into functional pieces. Together with my Interior Decorating Diploma my sewing has helped me to create curtains, blinds, cushions, upholstered items for friends and family through the years.

Heather joined Sew Creative as a student in 2018. Even though she had a number of years of sewing experience, she enjoyed getting back to basics on the Extended Beginner Course. Heather became a part of the family with her participation in many of Sew Creative’s craft & other short courses. Early in 2020, Heather joined our team as a trainee instructor and rejoined in August 2020 after the abrupt halt during lockdown.
Heather is a very kind & patient tutor, guiding our beginners through each step with care and precision. Our students feel confident under her watchful eye and careful guidance.
